» name: Kamina
» canon: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
» age: 22
» species: Human
» guild affiliation? Y; Dai-Gurren
» job: Guild Leader
» starting location: Outside of Raserun
» background:
Kamina had been born in one of the smaller towns that was near the foot of the mountains and basically grew up as an orphan. Originally he lived with only his mother, his father having already left her to continue on his own adventures and travels before he was born. However, he had stopped by every once in a while to visit after learning that Kamina was his son, and would tell the boy of all the adventures that he had been through. He also always told Kamina that he should go out and see the world for himself when he was old enough, and that he should continue to work on becoming a man. Then Kamina never saw his father again, for by this time he had become an outlaw from Vis Vires, though he and his mother had not known it at the time. Not too long after, there had been a monster raid on the village and his mother was killed. And by this time, his mother presumed his father to be dead and sheltered Kamina little.
However, that did not stop the kid. After his mother’s death, Kamina was old enough to start learning the use of weapons and while most would have thought he would try to kill monsters out of vengeance, Kamina instead focused on working on his strength. He continued to train and would join groups heading out even if he was the youngest. The words of his father continued to echo in his mind, and since he, too, believed him to be dead, was determined to go beyond what his father did.
It wasn’t easy, and he had many close calls. But he was soon able to prove his worth, even if it usually meant using just brute force. If there was one thing, Kamina was always persistent and more stubborn than a mule. No matter how hard it got, he would continue to push his limits, even if it risked his life.
And that was the life he lived. Raserun was created back when he was only around one year of age and people started to move into the city, but not him. He continued to stay with the more independent groups while staying within the faction. He later became a mercenary, taking on jobs to eliminate any monsters or go after any rogues and bandits that may have been in the area. He has ventured into the mountains some, but not as far as he would have liked. He just could never seem to find the right people. Or at least people who wouldn’t chicken out after a point. And despite his bravado and boasting of being able to take on a hoard of monsters single-handedly (whether or not that is actually true has yet to actually be proven. Most people just don’t believe it), Kamina knew he would need other people.
Unfortunately, during this time, there had been a lax of people willing to participate. The original founder of the guild had been a great warrior, but when Kamina was around eleven, a change of leaders had to be made when the founder became ill. The new guild leader was older, and more focused on research and keeping the peace with the other guilds. While monsters would attack every now and then, there had been little action in terms of having to necessarily keep up the defenses. Also, the magitechnology research involving the golems and advancing weaponry, as well as exploring the nearby caves of the mountains had taken more precedent. Though further explorations into the mountains were planned, it was far off in the future. And eight years later, Kamina wanted action to happen now.
Still, there wasn’t much he could do, despite his efforts to persuade the guild leader at the time. He soon grew tired of the baldy and continued to try and work out his own plans. He created the Gurren Brigade, which was only a handful of other youths who shared his ideals, and later acquired his own raelith, also naming it Gurren (Gurren’s story is in the other section).
And then the monster raids happened.
A hoard from the mountains descended upon Raserun, and while they were able to fight back, there was a lot of disorganization and miscommunication due to the guild leader’s inability to stand up. In truth, he had never been a great fighter and was therefore unable to adequately command.
So, Kamina took over. After confronting the then guild leader, he literally took the sword, the symbol of the head of the guild, from its rack and led a group against the monsters. With each defeat of the invading monsters, more and more joined in behind Kamina and with the aid from support by Vis Veris, they were able to push back the invading force. And while he was still battle torn and bleeding, Kamina faced the guild leader and basically said he was taking over. No one opposed him and that’s how Kamina came to be the leader of the guild of Raserun. He renamed it as Dai-Gurren, symbolizing how the original Gurren Brigade is now larger as it now encompasses everyone of Raserun.
He made a few changes upon ascending to power with Anathla as his Second. He approved of the current research that was being made and let it run as it was as it was being handled well enough as it was. So instead he focused on reorganizing the groups and towns that were outside of the guild and pretty much worked on keeping everyone in fighting shape. He hastened the exploration of the mountains. As he had the researchers also backing this (they wanted to see what else could be used within the mountains), it wasn’t too hard to set up expeditions, some of which he would personally lead (which was not surprising to anyone).
Within the two years he became guild leader, Raserun became a more lively and manly place, while still keeping an order. There is a mutual sense of camaraderie and fellowship within the guild, and keeping with tradition, they continue to act as the sort of police force Verinthia. They keep a watch out for hostile monster groups and any rogue parties and bandits that are harassing anyone within their territory as well as outside. Their services are offered to the other guilds as well should they be needed.
Currently Kamina is organizing an expedition into the mountains and hopes to leave within the next few weeks.
» personality:
Kamina is overconfident, arrogant, loud, and stupid. HOWEVER, he is very passionate about his goals and beliefs, and he believes in people, people that he trusts at least. He will more than once let his life literally be at the hands of those who is close to (in canon it would be Simon, in Verinithia, it would be anyone he has formed a bond with such as Gurren and his Second-in-Command). He is also a good leader. It’s not unusual for him to take charge or debate with other team members about how to handle a situation. While his own actions may seem rash, there is usually (though not always) reason to them. He will put himself on the frontlines and make sure everyone else is safe. In essence, he’s acting as the “tank” or “bait” so that the monsters can focus on him and everyone else does their part. And he trusts that they will. If not, he will pick up the slack.
One of his most often quoted catchphrases is “Believe in me who believes in you”, which reflects this train of thought. In essence, it’s a cycle of trust. So long as someone believes in him, then that person can also believes in themselves as Kamina is believing in them. Past that, my brain starts to explode.
He is pretty much 99.9% positive energy. And he has plenty of it to spare. He’s a fun-loving, party type guy, willing to give his support, and though he doesn’t show it, he can be serious when he’s out alone and thinking about what needs to be done. Still, he’s definitely one for the overdramatic speeches, never hesitates, and just pushes on forward (like literally. He would never back down when a sane person would and just plows through danger like it’s a field of wheat or something). Another one of his catchphrases: “Who the hell you think I am?!”
He also doesn’t like authority much, especially when there is any sort of unreasonable restriction. He prefers his freedom and independence. But basically, he has a sort of loud older brother lookin’ over you leader personality.
Kamina will still charge in by himself at times and can be pretty reckless. As he prefers ACTION over THINKING, it takes a bit for someone to reason with him, particularly if he’s stubborn and adamant about doing something a certain way (read: HIS way). However, he isn’t narrow-minded, either. He’ll listen to others and if he finds their opinions useful will implement the ideas.
So long as it keeps them moving forward and has a bang to it, Kamina will be all over it.
Some may see this as a weakness, but this is also his strength. He believes that he can push that limit, to go beyond what people think, and that in turn makes him work harder.
As briefly, briefly, mentioned before, Kamina does have a bit of a mature side. A bit. It tends to get glossed over by his otherwise loud persona. Though it may not always look like it, it’s not always about him. He’s willing to give credit to where credit is due. He takes the leader position because no one else will, but he’s in essence actually trying to help push people forward. If he knows that someone can handle it, he’ll let them take the reins. Also, whether or not he’s actually calculating/thinking about battle tactics, he seems to have this natural instinct to know what to do (even if it’s not always polished or planned). He knows that everything has a weakness, even himself. And he will try to find it and exploit it if possible. …Otherwise he’ll just barge right on through, which tends to happen first. If there’s no time to think, no problem. Kamina will just keep moving and can be pretty quick to think on his feet.
Another thing of note is that while Kamina can be a bully himself at times, he doesn’t like it when others are being pushed around, especially those who could stand up for themselves. So he will be more than willing to boost up someone’s confidence and help them around. This in turn means he hates those who try to push their power on someone else or take advantage of them.
One final thing: HE IS LOUD. AND HAS A FIERY SPIRIT OF AWESOME. Or at least that’s what he likes to say/portray himself to have.
» abilities:
Other than being a good leader and charismatic, motivational speaker (though maybe not always intelligent sounding), Kamina’s main abilities come from himself and physical prowess. He is a great fighter, though not necessarily the best. He’s more tenacious than extremely skilled when it comes to hand-to-hand combat and the sword. He is also an adept raelith rider and can fight while on Gurren.
» appearance/weapon:
Somewhat spiky blue hair and he hardly ever wears a shirt, so people can see the blue, symmetrical tattoos around his body. On his lower back a flame can be distinguished. Even when it’s really cold, the most he ever puts on is a crimson red vest with the Dai-Gurren symbol on the back. He does wear bandage wraps around his waist and wrists, and his pants are a dark brown/black color with two flaming red stripes on the bottom. A white belt with two rows of either black dots or holes (it’s hard to tell) is tied into a knot in the front. He wears sandals as footwear. He also has a pair of pointed orange-red sunglasses that just magically stay on his face since they have no temple, just the front part of the frame. And to complete the look, he dons a flaming red cape that has the Dai-Gurren on the back. It is clasped together by two golden yellow rope…thingies in the front.
As for his weapon, Kamina mainly wields a katana like sword called a nodachi. There’s nothing special to it. Just a simple sword…of hard steel. It doesn’t break as easily as most swords despite its thin and slender shape. Thanks to magitechnology, it had been reinforced so that it could withstand greater impacts. His sword is actually the one the original guild leader wielded and symbolizes that he is the guild leader and head of Raserun. There is also a crest and inscription engraved within the hilt and blade.
» changes from canon:
- Obviously, Kamina couldn’t really have his real Gurren, which is a large mech. I altered this with the raelith. The golems that are currently being created could have been substitutes and he may use them. It depends on how they are developed.
- Relationships, particularly that with Simon, are not stated here to keep it open. In essence, it’s as if Kamina is coming out from before being with Simon but still keeping his mentality. I believe that he would still have his current philosophy and attitudes with or without Simon.
- Another change is that while Kamina does see the monsters/creatures as enemies, it’s not as huge of a deal as if he’s warring against beastmen, but it could be similar.
- Instead of coming from Underground, he’s coming from an outside place but still has yet to explore the world.
» other:
Kamina rides a raelith, a large dark chestnut red stallion with two, curved ebony horns. The story goes was that they actually wrestled each other. On a dare made by one of his friends, Kamina had gone out to where a wild herd usually roamed and…walked over to it. No trying to sneak or bribe it. Face to face they had stood before the stallion suddenly reared and charged at him. Kamina then dodged and actually leaped onto the creature’s back, riding it for a while before it slammed its own body into the ground to try and knock Kamina off. He then grabbed its horns and for hours they wrestled, the stallion continually trying to shake him off and Kamina refusing to let go despite the amounts of kicks. In the end, both wound up battered and lying on the ground and the stallion, seeing his determined, manly, burning spirit – or as Kamina says – accepted him. The stallion was named Gurren, as Kamina felt the stallion was like a symbol of the Gurren Brigade, and Kamina was able to join others for longer and farther expeditions. Thanks to Gurren, Kamina was able to explore more than he imagined as well as be able to fight harder foes. They grew a sort of mutual bond and help each other. Rather than owner and steed, they work as partners.
Gurren is a powerful and skilled “fighter”, and not at all hesitant to show his own dominance when necessary. However, unlike Kamina, Gurren’s personality is a bit more stoic and calmer. Still, he does have a bit of an ego and will never back down from a fight. Unless it was pointless.

Seeing the eager faces in the group sent a thrill of exhilaration through Kamina’s body as he gave them one last bit of pep talk.
“Everyone!” Kamina shouted above the babble that had sprung amongst the members of the group as they waited to be set off. It was obvious they were as anxious to get going as he was. “Every person should know their role and I don’t have to say that ya shouldn’t screw up. But if ya do,” and here he jabbed his thumb to his chest and gave them a fierce grin, “I got it all covered! Just leave everythin’ ta me and we’ll be able ta show those mangy bandits what happens when they mess with the Demon Lord Kamina, leader of Dai-Gurren!”
Even before he had finished his words, a loud chorus of “HELL YEAH” and “HOORAH” rose up into the air, everyone raising their fist as if punching the air.
With a confident grin, Kamina gave them one last look before walking over to where Gurren was watching, tacked and ready with a stoic expression as usual. He gave the raelith and hard slap on the shoulder. “Let’s go show ‘em what we got!” he said with a smirk, to which Gurren gave a shrill neigh and pawed the ground. In the next instant, Kamina had leaped into the saddle and grabbed the reins. The raelith then reared slightly before wheeling around to face the group.
“Dai-Gurren Brigade, LET’S MOVE!”
